Depression

Depression is a mood disorder which involves feelings of extraordinary sadness and dejection. The degree of depression can vary from mild to major and can last for a short or long period of time. Mild depression, usually brought on by recent stress, is a common disorder that many people experience at some point. However, some cases of depression can become severe or chronic, and are much more debilitating. Though the great majority of cases occur between the ages of 25 and 65, it may occur anytime from childhood to old age. This disorder is characterized by prominent and persistent depressed mood, accompanied by symptoms such as poor appetite, insomnia, decreased sex drive, fatigue, feelings of worthlessness or guilt, inability to concentrate, and thoughts of death or suicide.
