I am a training analyst at the San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis and a supervisor, teacher, and researcher at the San Francisco Psychotherapy Research Group. I practice a humanistic, positive and empirically supported form of psychoanalytic psychotherapy called Control Mastery Theory. Articles about this theory are on the website www.sfprg.org. After an initial interview, I tell clients how I understand their problems so that they can judge for themselves whether they want to work with me. I believe that people who seek therapy are highly motivated to master the unconscious obstacles to reaching their goals. I focus on irrational self-blame, false self-criticism, and pathogenic beliefs that interfere with one’s ability to be successful and enjoy life. My style is friendly, collaborative, direct, and interactive. I like my patients and enjoy helping them achieve a better quality of life.
