Biography:
Clinical Psychologist and Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Baylor College of Medicine with 20 years of professional training and experience in clinical psychology providing assessment, consultation, and treatment/intervention services for individuals, couples, families, and groups suffering from mental and behavioral health problems, co-occurring medical illnesses, and substance use disorders.

Completed graduate, doctoral, and postdoctoral scientist-practitioner clinical training at highly-ranked APA-accredited institutions throughout Texas, in a range of clinical settings including specialty clinics, community mental health centers, inpatient psychiatric hospitals, forensic residential hospitals, university hospitals, and primary care medical settings.

Extensive experience with focused and comprehensive psychological and psychoanalytically-informed personality assessments, in addition to providing short-term empirically-supported treatments and longer-term relational approaches to clients’ diverse presenting concerns.

Experience providing clinical and ethico-legal consultation and supervision to fully licensed mental health practitioners as well as professionals in training.

Areas of expertise: psychoanalytically-informed personality assessment, Mentalization-Based Treatment, Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapy, men’s issues, recovery from marital infidelity, and consultation for helping professionals.

Psychotherapy Services:
Provide primarily outpatient psychotherapy and psychological services to adolescents, adults, and couples. Areas of specialty include: depth psychotherapy utilizing Mentalization-Based Treatment, Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapy, men’s issues, recovery from marital infidelity, and psychotherapy for members of the “helping professions” (i.e., clergy/clergy couples, psychotherapists, educators, administrators, etc.). Services are offered for problem areas (e.g., clinically significant/interfering anxiety, depression, marital conflict, and professional performance challenges), and to facilitate personal growth and spiritual development (e.g., achieving greater levels of work-life balance, intimacy in interpersonal relationships, and personal and relational fulfillment and meaning in life).

Psychological & Personality Assessment Services:
Comprehensive psychological and personality assessment that addresses common referral questions (e.g., diagnostic status, problem severity and complexity, levels of distress and impairment, coping styles and potential resistance, targeted treatment recommendations, etc.), with attention to critical features of a patient’s psychological assets and vulnerabilities. For example, how to work more effectively with an individual or couple given their coping resources and ways of managing stress, capacity for affect modulation, manner of processing information, conscious and unconscious experience of themselves, and explicit and implicit models for relating with others. Such comprehensive and individually-tailored evaluations are typically helpful to treating psychotherapists and psychiatrists alike.

Consultation Services:
Professional consultation is provided to licensed mental health providers and clergy seeking assistance with more challenging patients, clients, or congregation members, and their complex social systems, more broadly.
