Pamela Dockstader-Ortiz, PsyD

In my experience I have provided individual, couples, and family therapy while working with adults and children of diverse backgrounds in a variety of treatment settings.  I have extensive experience working with mood and anxiety disorders, behavioral disorders, childhood disorders such as ADHD, oppositional defiance, and impulse control.

I utilize a systemic approach when working with children and their families while providing effective parenting strategies to optimize results.  When working with couples I utilize the Gottman method developed to assist couples with improving communication, conflict resolution, and enhancing intimacy with their partner.

Specific areas of clinical practice include grief and loss and trauma-focused counseling related to post traumatic stress. Traumas can result from a wide variety of life events such as loss of a loved one, car accidents, natural disasters, neglect and abuse (physical/sexual/psychological), and/or service related experiences (military and first responders). Trauma can simply result from “life in general.” Trauma often causes depression and anxiety, strained interpersonal relationships, occupational and academic obstacles, and interfere with achieving one’s life goals.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), and Prolonged exposure (PE) are all empirically researched and effective approaches with which to lessen the symptoms felt by trauma survivors. Using eclectic therapy approaches, Dr. Dockstader-Ortiz focuses on collaborating with each individual to assist them in achieving their desired treatment goals. While offering guidance and encouragement clients can learn to make connections between their past trauma, current stressors and triggers, and employ new and more adaptive ways in which to cope.
