Mary Katherine Howell

As a graduate student in the Clinical Psychology PhD Program at Howard University, Mary Katherine Howell’s primary research interests are in pathways of subjective distress and autonomic arousal and habituation that optimize treatment response in exposure-based treatments for PTSD. She also has an interest in posttraumatic distress presentation in various cultural contexts, such as urban-residing African American populations, Veteran populations, and Arab populations. She is a member of Dr. Thomas Mellman’s lab, the Sleep and Stress Research Program. She was recently awarded the NIH TL1 grant, which will fund her dissertation research, and is currently receiving clinical training at the DC VA Medical Center in the Trauma Services Program.
