Gayle R. Berg, PhD

Over the past 30 years I have been a practicing psychologist in Roslyn and have helped many adults and couples navigate the rocky roads of their journey. My practice is devoted primarily to adults, adolescents and couples with a clear focus on the kinds of problems they encounter during the course of their lifetimes as well as their struggle to cope as effectively as they can in the face of them. I consider myself a specialist in “life transitions”. Life transitions are those moments in life that pose some kind of personal difficulty or challenge requiring some kind of change in one’s life. These are the times where one’s world may feel like it is upside down. This may be due to something that has occurred such as: the end of a relationship, a divorce, the death of a loved one; a traumatic accident, a diagnosis of a physical or mental problem, the loss of a job/pet/. Or it could be the result of something that hasn’t occurred but will be happening in the not so distant future. For example; leaving home for the first time, a move, test, a job or career change, the birth of a child, parenthood, retirement, an impending surgery or some other life situation that may be difficult for one to navigate through. In addition to “talk therapy” or psychotherapy, I utilize mindfulness training and/or hypnotherapy either alone or in conjunction with psychotherapy to enhance or accelerate the therapy process. I have found the hypnosis to be effective in treating individuals who have problems with anxiety, phobias and/or self-esteem. I provide diagnostic consultations and treatment recommendations for those individuals who are not quite sure whether they want to or are ready to commit to a course of therapy. I also specialize in the treatment of couples who may be at various stages in their relationship or facing significant relationship difficulties such as the discovery of an affair, medical or mental illness in a spouse, miscarriage, family relationship problems and other issues that couples may encounter during the course of their marriage.
